Forbes has just released their first-ever America’s Best Employers for Diversity list and guess what two Charleston establishments found itself on there – the Medical University of South Carolina and Blackbaud.
Making its way onto the list at number 53 (of 250), MUSC comes in just ahead of Michigan State University in Lansing. MUSC has eight diversity officers — one for the university, one for the health system, and six for each individual college. The medical school also ranked 6 out of 20 in the education category.
Blackbaud came in at number 207 (of 250).
These two employers were the only two employers in the entire state of South Carolina to make the list.
Forbes compiled the 250-company list based on an independent survey of 30,000 employees working for companies with 1,000 or more employees. Company scores were based on four key metrics: employee recommendations, public perception scores, percentages of women in executive and board positions, and key performance indicators such as the existence of a diversity office or position.
Forbes leadership editor Fred Allen said, “Diversity has become a business imperative because it makes businesses better places and richer in every sense of the word.”
The top five spots were taken by financial services company Northern Trust, the Smithsonian Institute, Levy Restaurants, Intuit, and Harvard University.
