A.C.’s Bar and Grill
If you’re on King Street and looking for somewhere to grab a cheap beer and some classic bar food, look no further than A.C.’s. Patrons love the drink specials and rave about the size of the shots. This classic dive is also the place to be if you want to shoot some pool. And if you had too much of a good thing hitting Charleston’s dive bars the night before, you can also grab brunch here. The mimosas have a good ratio of champagne to OJ and are a good deal.
Salty Mike’s Deck Bar
This deck bar is right on a marsh so you can take in some gorgeous views while imbibing here. Beer specials make this bar a go-to for those seeking a deal and the atmosphere is perfect for an evening kicking back and relaxing with friends. If you work up an appetite, the restaurant upstairs has you covered.
The Recovery Room Tavern
More frequently referred to as the Rec Room, this dive on Upper King has a little bit of something for everyone. Good strong drinks, cheap beer and plenty of activities to keep you happy all night long. To be “in” with this crowd try a hipster favorite PBR or an order of the “Tater Tatchos”, AKA tater tot nachos. And while you’re in the zone after a couple of signature Long Island Ice Teas you can get your game on with pinball, foosball, Hoop Fever, and bocce out back.
With its ironic name and funky low key atmosphere, the Palace Hotel fits in among Charleston’s best dive bars. This establishment on Hanover Street is a mecca for people looking for cheap drinks and delicious food. If you belly up to the bar inside, you’re only getting half the experience. When Charleston’s usually beautiful weather permits, head out and take in the colorful patio area.
Upper Deck Tavern
This hidden gem is a signless haven on King Street. The Upper Deck Tavern is a dive bar worth seeking out in Charleston. For a cold Miller High Life or PBR, this is the place to be. The friendly bartenders serve the crowd of locals cheap drinks and patrons can challenge themselves to a game of tipsy Jenga if they have the chops.
