We Donut Lie, These Are The Best Doughnut Shops In Charleston

Featured Image: Glazed Gourmet Doughnuts/FB

Doughnuts are a delicacy that deserves to be cherished, celebrated and enjoyed. Seriously, try naming one person who doesn’t like doughnuts. They can be enjoyed in the morning with a cup of coffee, as a snack during the day, or at night with a glass of milk before bed. And, while we love the classic doughnut shops, Charleston has some major doughnut game going on with some of the best artisan doughnut shops in the state.

Here are our favorites:

Glazed Gourmet Doughnuts

Located on busy Upper King, this doughnut shop is everything your doughnut dreams are made of. The bakery has 200 different flavors and styles to chose from that are sure to spark your sweet tooth. Oh!- and it’s open late night when you need a sugar rush after the bar.

As soon as you walk into this bakery your tastebuds will be salivating from the fresh smell of pastries. The doughnuts here are so savory and delicious, getting just one isn’t enough. Try favorites like blackberry, pistachio, or local strawberry and Nutella. Not feeling adventurous? That’s okay, you can go classic with glazed sprinkles and Boston Cream.

Do-Nut Miss This: BKeD To Open Shop In Charleston This Spring

A favorite Charleston area food truck is getting a brick and mortar store soon. BKeD, known for its delicious baked goods and sandwiches, will have a permanent home this spring.

For a while now, whenever the small food truck pulled up, people flocked there for lunch or a sweet treat. Now they’ll have somewhere to go to satisfy their sweet tooth.

When the BKeD store opens, they will be focusing on pretzels with a side of donuts. They say their love of pretzels was developed after many hours of baking. The tradition of the pretzel inspires them to turn out delicious classic pretzels with a twist.

BKeD aims to have the best artisan pretzels in Charleston. They use flour, water, salt, butter and yeast in small batches to achieve this. The dough is then fermented for over 24 hours and then rolled, looped, and knotted.

Their current line up of pretzels includes Charleston Sea Salt, Everything, Herbed, Cheddar, Cinnamon Sugar, Chocolate-Sea Salt and special seasonal flavors.

They haven’t forgotten their donut roots though. The donuts go through the same process as the pretzels, hand made in small batches. The flavors vary seasonally and are made with local ingredients.

The opening of the new store is slated for March or April. In the meantime you can get a custom order from BKed by contacting them at the above linked site. And keep a lookout for the truck around town.
