With the holiday season well under way, one of Charleston’s most popular seasonal events is right around the corner. This Sunday, December 2nd, everyone’s favorite antebellum-era plantation is serving up all the wine in the most stunning outdoor setting and we “decant” wait.

From 1pm to 5pm, on the back lawn of Boone Hall Plantation, you’ll find wine samples as well as complimentary bubbles, desserts and oysters at this year’s Wine Under the Oaks event. Boone Hall Farms has even put together a variety of food and wine pairings to be enjoyed throughout the day.

In addition to all the sips and bites, some of Charleston’s finest chefs will be performing wine and cooking demonstrations. Local artists and writers will be represented with artwork displays and local writers will showcase published works at the Authors Village. All the while, you’ll be grooving to live music from local jazz saxophonist Michael Quinn!

Be sure to get a photo in front of the plantation home, as it will be beautifully decorated for the holidays. VIP tables are sold out, but general admission is still available for $55 and includes all of the above festivities.

If the complimentary food and wine isn’t enough, area restaurants will be serving up gourmet selections at reduced prices. Attendees will get access to special pricing on featured wines at the World of Wines retail tent.

It’s the perfect spot to grab that host gift for all of the holiday parties you’ve got coming up. But, if you keep those bottles for yourself, there are plenty of unique gift options from the other specialty vendors.

Keep in mind that this event is limited to guests aged 21 and over. For those of you who are able to attend, this is the perfect kick-off to the holiday season and you’ll likely experience some serious FOMO (fear of missing out) if you are not there!

Tickets are final sale and can be purchased online in advance here or at the gate until they are sold out!

Also, be sure to double check that your tickets are for this event, not regular tours of the plantation! Rain or shine, this is one of the best events in the Lowcountry and the perfect way to kick off the holidays!

Best Charleston Christmas

Best Charleston Christmas Gifts To Share This Holiday Season

Featured Image Credit: Boone Hall Plantation Facebook

Christmas is in the air in the Lowcountry and that means it’s time for gathering with loved ones and exchanging gifts. This year, why not treat the special people in your life to something uniquely Charleston? Because it’s one of the most popular cities in the world, a gift from the area would be most welcome from any recipient. So when you’re shopping for the perfect Charleston Christmas gift, try one of the following ideas.

Sweetgrass Baskets

Nothing is quite as iconic as a sweetgrass basket woven in Charleston. Weaving them goes back centuries and the practice is passed on from generation to generation. Whether you want a small basket, a rosette, or a larger piece, you can get one at the City Market or at one of the stands along Highway 17 in Mount Pleasant.

Gourmet Food

There are so many different foods that say “Charleston.” One of them is grits, and we love the ones from Geechie Boy Mill. Another great option is a sweet treat like a praline or benne wafer from Market Street Sweets. Boone Hall Farms also has an array of spreads, pickled items, and jams made from local ingredients. Buy one of their gift baskets or create your own with items picked up from around the Lowcountry.  And don’t forget the tea from Charleston Tea Plantation.

Oyster Gear

Oysters are a part of Charleston culture, like most coastal towns. So if you have a friend or relative who loves them, why not outfit them with gloves and knives for shucking. Places like Coastal Cupboard and Kitchen & Company carry useful and visually pleasing knives and cut-proof gloves.

Tickets to Tour a Plantation

Charleston wouldn’t be Charleston without its rich history. Plantations are an integral part of that history. So let your loved ones soak in the historical beauty of one of the many Charleston area plantations like Boone Hall, Drayton Hall, Middleton Place, or Magnolia Plantation.

Gift Cards to Charleston Restaurants

While you can’t wrap up a meal and put it under the tree (well, you could, but we wouldn’t advise it), you can give the gift of Charleston’s culinary scene by giving a gift certificate or gift card for one of Charleston’s signature restaurants. Hall’s Chophouse, Circa 1886, Grill 225, Peninsula Grill and Slightly North of Broad (also known as S.N.O.B.) are all great choices.
