As we all know, our beloved city of Charleston will be flooded with people for the solar eclipse on August 21st. Lodgings are almost fully booked for the weekend. It is unknown exactly how many people will be making their way to the low country.
Cell phone service will be in high demand during the eclipse. “This is the first total eclipse throughout the USA in the cellular era,” said Bill Tunick, director of county telecommunications. “You can expect congestion on the cell phone networks and very slow responses.”
Texting is suspected to be the best way of communication during the frenzy. It is also recommended to enjoy the eclipse at a park. Marion Square will have cooling tents and water as well as 28 other Charleston parks and recreation centers will be staffed.
Traffic is expected to be a major problem as well. The total eclipse is from 2:46 p.m. to 2:48 p.m. however, there is a partial one that starts at 1:17 p.m. to 4:10 p.m. according to the National Weather Service. Traffic will be monitored from the air and patrols will be increased during this event. For precaution, public safety officials advise people to stay hydrated and wear ISO-certified eclipse glasses. Nasa.gov provides more information and vendors for protective glasses.
