Local Charleston Hotel and Restaurants Ranked Amongst Best in The World

Charleston has been home to so many accolades over the years, including Top City in the World Outside the United Kingdom for the 9th year running. Now to add to the tally, Tripadvisor has released it’s annual Travelers’ Choice Awards. Charleston received a #1 hotel in the country title and 3 restaurants made the top 10 fine dining list.

The fabulous French Quarter Inn was named #1 hotel in the country and #24 in the world. Hall’s Chophouse comes in #3 for fine dining, Charleston Grill at #9, and Peninsula Grill at #10. With over 7 million visitors each year, it’s no surprise that Charleston hotels and restaurants are consistently successful.

This year, Tripadvisor’s 2020 Travelers’ Choice Awards were conducted pre-pandemic. “This has been a tough year for our industry, but the global desire to go and explore, whether the destination is an hour away or across the world, remains strong,” said Lindsay Nelson, chief of experience and brand officer at Tripadvisor. “The Travelers’ Choice program is one way that travelers and diners can benefit from the real-life experiences of other people so they can plan their perfect trip that meets their needs, budget and style.”

The French Quarter Inn is open for business this summer, so you still have a chance to book a stay. As for the restaurants, they remain practicing social distancing, and take-away is a safe option for those unable to leave their homes.

If you ask any Charleston local (or visitor) what their favorite steakhouse is, odds are they’ll say Hall’s Chophouse. With high-end steaks, handcrafted cocktails, and family sides to drool over, we can’t help but agree.

Obviously doing something right in the kitchen, the family-owned restaurant now has four locations, including Charleston, Columbia, Greenville, and as of today, Summerville. The new location opened Wednesday, September 18 at 4 p.m. in the Nexton development and is a whopping 6,800 square feet.

The local favorite is one of many favorited Charleston restaurants to expand to the Nexton development.

Earlier in the year, Taco Boy, opened in the area making it the restaurant’s third location. Other locations include Huger Street downtown and Center Street on Folly Beach.

Soon to follow with their grand opening is Paige’s Okra Grill of Mount Pleasant and Poogan’s Hospitality.

Poogan’s, known for Poogan’s Porch and Poogan’s Smokehouse in the Holy City, will welcome their third location, dubbed Poogan’s Southern Kitchen, to the Nexton development in early 2020 along with Paige’s Okra Grill. And, while you can’t make a reservation to either until 2020, reservations can be made for Hall’s Chophouse Summerville now!

It’s time to put aside all resolutions and break out the holiday eating pants again. That’s right, it’s Charleston Restaurant Week! From January 9-20, 2019 you can enjoy Charleston’s culinary scene without breaking the bank.

Twice a year, Charleston residents and visitors are able to try out some of the best restaurants in town at a fraction of the usual price. And, because there are so many delicious restaurants to try from and so little time, we’re highlighting some of the best menus.

Cantina 76 – Mt. Pleasant

Offer: 3 courses for $15

As if their tacos aren’t enough reason to visit Cantina 76, they’re offering three courses for only $15 during restaurant week. Included on their menu is a choice of queso, guac, or salsa, served with chips; a choice of an entree; and your choice of a dessert or one of their handcrafted margaritas (margarita, please).

Carolina Ale House – Downtown Charleston/Summerville

Offer: 3 courses for $25

After seeing frickles (fried pickles) and pretzels with queso on Carolina Ale’s restaurant week menu, we were sold. Located in Downtown Charleston on the corner of King and Meeting Street as well as in Downtown Summerville right off I-26, Carolina Ale is offering a two-person, three-course meal for just $25.

Ms. Rose’s Fine Food & Cocktails – West Ashley

Offer: 3 courses for $25

Just on the other side of the Ashley River is Ms. Rose’s Fine Food & Cocktails. A neighborhood favorite, Ms. Roses Fine Food & Cocktails is offering a variety of their delicious Southern dishes including their grilled cheese plate and smoked beef ribs.

Mex 1 Coastal Cantina – West Ashley

Offer: 3 courses for $30

Named after the highway that runs along the Baja California coast, Mex 1 is another hot spot for Mexican cuisine and they’re serving up a three-course meal for $30. While the normal restaurant week menu doesn’t include any adult beverages, the bonus round for $12 includes not one but TWO specialty cocktails.

Dockery’s – Daniel Island

Offer: 3 courses for $30

Dockery’s is perfect for a night away from the town. Located on charming Daniel Island, they’ve got live music and food options for everyone. Seriously, their first course includes options like calamari and chili, followed with a vegetable plate entree or the local fish. For dessert? Cookies and milk, apple fritter, or coconut cake. There’s an option for everyone in your group.

Tavern & Table – Mt. Pleasant

Offer: 3 courses for $35

Looking for a good view to compliment your meal? Here’s your place. Tavern and Table, located on breathtaking Shem Creek, is not only offering three delicious courses for $35; they’re adding in an extra perk with wine specials during all of the restaurant weeks. Cheers!

Bohemian Bull – James Island

Offer: 2 people for $25 or 2 people for $35

Bohemian Bull has compiled two menus offering some of their best dishes. While both menus are priced for two people, one is priced at $25 and the other at $35. The difference between the two? The entree selections.

Bourbon & Bubbles – Downtown Charleston

Offer: 3 courses for $40

Restaurant Week is the perfect time to try out Charleston’s hottest and newest restaurant. Located on Upper King, Bourbon & Bubbles is offering a three-course meal including favorites like deviled eggs, tots, and tenderloin.
