Starting in 2018, Charleston International Airport will be getting a little bit busier. Denver-based Frontier Airlines announced Tuesday it will launch service from Charleston to three major cities next winter and spring.
This low-cost carrier will provide nonstop service from Charleston to Denver and Philadelphia on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays starting February 20 with an introductory rate of $39. Flights from Charleston to Chicago O’Hare will start on May 11 on Mondays and Fridays with a $34 initial cost. Frontier’s vice president of marketing Tyri Squyres mentioned in a new conference, “We see a huge opportunity when there aren’t low-cost fares in the marketplace.” These rates are good for 48 hours, but travelers are advised to act quickly as seats are expected to sell out fast.
Frontier uses France-based Airbus jets and A320 models that seat 186 passengers. The low-cost carrier announced in July plans to expand into 21 new cities. Squyres voiced positively about the expansion saying, “Charleston has been on our map for a while. … We really believe in Charleston and are excited to bring low-cost service to Charleston.”
