Folly Gras

Join Charleston’s Largest Mardi Gras Celebration This Weekend At Folly Gras

Couldn’t quite swing the trip down to New Orleans this year? No worries! Charleston knows how to throw a good Mardi Gras celebration too.

The largest Mardi Gras in Charleston, Folly Gras, is back this Saturday and every year the festival brings thousands of people to the city of Folly Beach annually.

The festival includes local vendors, crafts, live music, drink specials, and an all around good time. There will be three stages with different musical acts including Candy Cigarettes, Dangermuffin, Sundy Ledford, and more.

Festivities begin at 10am on Saturday the 23rd with the Folly Gras parade, and wrap up around 4pm. Admission is $10 per person but free for Folly Beach residents and children. Parking is limited so the city of Folly Beach is encouraging visitors to take Lyft or Uber; Lyft coupons will be available at the festival.

Check out this video to see some highlights from Folly Gras last year!

If you’re looking for a fun filled day with great energy and crazy costumes then Folly Gras is definitely the event for you!

Looking to keep the party going? here are other Mardi Gras celebrations also happening in Charleston in the coming weeks at The Royal American, Lola Cajun Food, and Frothy Beard Brewing Company!

Frothy Beard

Give Them Some Space! Frothy Beard To Add Private Seating Area

Featured Image Credit: Blake Williams

Push Digital is making all sorts of moves that will help rocket it into the stratosphere in no time. Already known for shaking things up in the digital world, the Charleston-based agency is growing in its hometown and beyond (like, wayyyyy beyond.) And that means big things as well for local favorite craft brewery, Frothy Beard, the largest indoor tap room in Charleston located directly beside Push Digital.

Make Room for Frothy

Currently, Push Digital’s Charleston office shares a space with Frothy Beard Brewing Company and Zombie Bob’s Pizza, which are both Push investments. This is great for employees who love craft beer and pizza (and who doesn’t?), but it’s not sustainable for a rapidly growing agency. That’s why they’re building out a new 3,500 sq. foot space next door to the brewery.

Frothy Beard

With Push moving out of the Frothy Beard space, it will open up a room for the brewing company to have a private area for parties, meetings, and receptions. This will make Frothy Beard the first brewery in Charleston with such a space. #Yassssss. That’s just another way Frothy Beard is innovating and making unique improvements in the Charleston area.

Locals already love to stop by Frothy Beard on Sam Rittenberg for a signature “pint and monster slice.” Now they can plan on celebrating special occasions and hosting large or small meetings at the brewery. You’ll get to experience some delicious beer and mouth-watering pizza while enjoying the privacy that the usually buzzing taproom doesn’t afford. The space is set to open sometime in spring 2018.

Push It Real Good

Push Digital is doing more than making a big move physically, they’re making big moves strategically. After working with brands like SeaWorld, HSN, Kmart, and Sears, Push has created a new corporate division, Push Brands. They’ve tapped former Senior Vice President, Michael Rentiers, to be President, Corporate Communications.

On the need for growth in Corporate Communications, CEO Wesley Donehue said,

“Corporations are quickly learning that the twenty-four hour, seven days a week work and rapid speed required in a new digital age can be accomplished by a team with a constant wartime mentality. Our political DNA, no-BS attitude and solutions based mentality make us uniquely qualified to move at a pace most can’t or won’t.”

Rentiers has already helped grow Push Advocacy since he joined in 2013 and will now focus his energies on growing the corporate communications offering. Push Advocacy will now be led by new hire, Anna Henderson, who will be Vice President of Advocacy.

Push Digital has also hired eight additional employees in the creative and accounts departments and promoted two more employees to help handle the agency’s growing workload.

One Of 2017’s Best Ads Came From A Charleston Agency – Take That New York

Featured Image Credit: Screenshot

Charleston is known for some killer creative types and the cool creative agencies that hire them.

But one Charleston-based digital ad agency, in particular, is taking their talents far beyond the state lines of South Carolina, and it’s a company you’ve probably never heard of before.

Well, you might have heard of Push, but it’s probably because they are one of South Carolina’s most prominent political and issue advocacy consulting agencies. Or because it’s owner, Wesley Donehue, is a partner at Frothy Beard Brewing. Ever been to Frothy Beard and seen all those people with computers?  That’s the Push team. As Frank Ocean once said, “work hard in silence, let your success be your noise.”

What you may not have known, is that for the last couple years, Push has been shifting from political and issue advocacy to crisis communications and brand reputation marketing. With the rise of digital media, Push has been working to attract some of the biggest national brands to its home right here in Charleston.

SeaWorld’s latest ad, created from start to finish by Push Digital, has been ranked the top “Breakthrough Ad of Q3 for 2017” by Ace Metrix. According to Ace Metrix, the ad has performed better across all metrics than any other travel ad in SeaWorld’s database (dating back to 2010).

Woah.

From curing ill, injured and orphaned animals to saving the environment, SeaWorld shares how they want to change the world with their new mission in this ad. Every single time you visit one of SeaWorld’s parks, you are contributing to that mission. The ad itself takes you on a visual journey with breathtaking footage of the ocean, sea creatures, animal rescues, releases and so much more.

When you think of advertising, you think Madison Avenue, New York. But Push Digital is proving that Charleston is becoming a creative center of the South. Just watch the ad they created that took our breath away, and you’ll see why.

Ace Metrix went on to say, “After dealing with a tarnished reputation in recent years, SeaWorld successfully demonstrated to most viewers that they are committed to making a positive impact on this planet. ‘From Park to Planet’ outperformed advertising norms across all user groups.”

Push Digital, located in West Ashley adjacent to Frothy Beard Brewing, started in 2007 by a couple of guys wanting to make their mark in the world. As Push Digital’s Founder and CEO, Donehue is constantly preaching about “Positive Vibes” and “Pushing People To Action” on their social media accounts. On any given day, when they aren’t kicking some serious a** in the office, you can find them next door sipping a beer in the brewery brainstorming ideas for a new campaign.

They’re obviously doing something right, here in the Holy City.

SeaWorld is definitely one of Push Digital’s biggest clients on the roster, right up there with Marco Rubio and Airlines for America.

We’re proud to call Push Digital one of our own, and we can’t wait to see them continue to climb the ladder of success in the coming years.

Where To Get The Best Dang Pizza In All Of Charleston

Featured Image Credit: Indaco Facebook

Don’t ever bet against pizza. If there’s one food that continues to get better and better in just about every part of the country, it’s pizza pies and pizza slices.

And while Charleston is more well known for its biscuits, fried okra, grits and pimento cheese, pizza has a special place in our stomachs and our hearts (Honestly, whose heart doesn’t have a special place for pizza?)

From fast food pizza you can take with you on the go at 2 am after a long night on King Street to artisan pizzerias specializing in local ingredients, the Holy City is a pizza lover’s dream. So, we asked a few locals to reveal their favorite pies. Try not to drool, you might ruin your keyboard.

D’Allesandro’s Pizza

PIZZA

D’Allesandro’s Pizza, better known as D’Als, is a local favorite. College of Charleston students literally live off of this pizza, but pretty much anyone you ask where the good pizza is at in Charleston will say D’Als. College students and locals flock to this little neighborhood joint nestled in Elliotborough for not just the pizza offerings but the variety of toppings and sauces.

Luke’s Craft Pizza

You might have seen this little mom and pop joint while traveling through the cross-town just off of Ashley Ave. You also might have heard how popular their pizzas are! With only a couple seats inside, Luke’s Craft Pizza focuses on carry-out. They serve whole pies with simple, classic, high-quality ingredients. Be sure to follow them on social media, because when they sell out of fresh pies for the day, which they do often, they let their customers know.

Indaco

Looking for a fancier way to enjoy a slice of pizza? Indaco has your back. The vibe is rustic and the star of the show is the wood-fired pizza and delicious wine. It’s a pretty good option for date night in Downtown Charleston. Not only do they make their own pasta, they are known for their impeccable service. Does it get any better?

Zombie Bob’s

If you’re heading to Zombie Bob’s, you would be wise to bring your appetite. Their “monster slices” are basically equivalent to FOUR regular slices of pizza. Located inside Frothy Beard Brewing Company, you can wash your monster slice down with a delicious beer that was brewed right across the room. Oh, and the crust is infused with the same beer made on site. On Sunday’s enjoy a pie topped with eggs, bacon, cheese and make all your brunch-lovin pizza-lovin dreams come true.

Pizzeria Di Giovanni

All that shopping at the Charleston City Market sure makes us hungry. Good thing Pizzeria Di Giovanni is just steps away and offers some ridiculously amazing pizza. Open until 3 am on Fridays and Saturdays, this Market Street joint is also perfect for a late night slice.

40 N Market St, Charleston, SC 29401

Famulari’s Pizza

Located just off of Folly Road, newly opened Famulari’s is the perfect place to stop in for a pizza and couple pints on your way back from the beach. In addition to serving up crispy and cheesy slices, Famulari’s brews their own beer in house. The outdoor patio with a firepit and plenty of seating is a great place to catch a football game with friends.

This Will Soon Be West Ashley’s Hot Spot

Featured Image Credit: Bartlett, Hartley & Mulkey Architects

Ashley Landing is making a BIG comeback thanks to their new owners. First a brewery and now a toastery… see what Faison Enterprises has in store for Charleston’s first shopping center West of the Ashley.

Built in 1970, Ashley Landing (aka Ashley Plaza) was the first indoor shopping mall built West of the Ashley in Charleston. Conveniently located at 1401 Sam Rittenberg Blvd, between the fork of Old Towne Road and just shy of the I-26 Cosgrove exit, the plaza is perfect for both locals and newly arriving visitors.

The shopping center previously housed two department stores: JM Fields and Condon’s. However, after years of stagnation under prior ownership, Ashley Landing is finally making a comeback —and it’s a big one.

Faison Enterprises Inc., a privately-held real estate company, recently acquired the 350,000sf retail center and has big plans up their sleeves. Notable existing tenants include Publix, Starbucks, Pivotal Fitness, Burlington Coat Factory and Red Orchids China Bistro. With the recent additions of Charleston Amish Furniture and Frothy Beard Brewing Company (the neighborhood favorite) drawing in more and more business to the center, it’s no wonder that new stores are now being signed up left and right.

Ashley Landing will soon be home to The Bicycle Shoppe, Famous Toastery, WingStop, Navy Federal Credit Union and Charleston Stage. The new West Ashley Theatre Center will feature a dance studio, classrooms, and a 150+ seat performance venue.

“We have been bursting at the seams with our current Theatre Education Facility in Mt. Pleasant,” explains Charleston Stage Associate Artistic Director and Director of Education, Marybeth Clark. “This new space is double the size of our old space which will allow us to greatly expand our education programs and to reach even more students each year. Best of all, the new facility at Ashley Landing is centrally located, no more than 15 minutes from Mt.Pleasant, Downtown, James Island, and the North Area. Being less than a mile off of I-26 and I-526, it will be convenient for young people and their families throughout the community.”

Additional categories that Faison would like to see come into the plaza include salon/spa, food and beverage, creative offices, and home furnishings/improvement.

Next time you’re in the area, be sure to stop by Ashley Landing. Where else can you do a little shopping, drink some locally brewed beers, grab a Starbucks latte, and some of the best Chinese in all of Charleston?
