How to Celebrate Cinco de Mayo Around Charleston

Let’s taco ‘bout Cinco de Mayo, which is coming up on Wednesday, May 5th! Here’s how you can celebrate the upcoming holiday with a fiesta of your own. 

Cinco de Mayo at 3 Matadors

Cinco de Mayo wouldn’t be complete without tacos and margaritas – both of which the 3 Matadors prides themselves on. On Cinco de Mayo, 3 Matadors is having a special celebration for the holiday with live music, food and drinks!

Cinco de Mayo at Mex 1

Mex 1 is bringing out all the stops for Cinco de Mayo this year. The West Ashley location is hosting a Cinco Block Party with live music from Yellowknife and Friends. The Park West and Sullivan’s Island locations will also feature live music. In addition, each location will have $5 margaritas all day long on Cinco de Mayo.

Cinco de Mayo Day Sip n’ Paint

Sip and Paint at this Cinco de Mayo themed painting class. Enjoy a variety of assorted tequilas while exploring your creative side. The event will take place on Wednesday, May 5th at the East Cooper Disco. Tickets are only $35 and include a complimentary drink, apron and painting supplies.

Zia Taqueria is a spot known for its out of this world tacos and tortas. It’s also got some of the best margaritas in Charleston. They have their classic Zia Rita made with fresh margarita mix, tequila Blanco and triple sec. The Zia Rita can be served frozen or on the rocks. If you want something a little fancier you can try the Primo Blanco, the Mas Margarita, the Primo Reposado, or the Grand Gold. All of these margaritas are served on the rocks.

Zia Taqueria is a spot known for its out of this world tacos and tortas. It’s also got some of the best margaritas in Charleston. Let’s TACO ‘Bout The Five Best Taco Spots In Charleston

Fun facts!

  1. “Taco” in Mexican Spanish = “light lunch” in English.
  2. Last year, a whopping 4.5 million tacos were consumed by Americans.
  3. According to Tacopedia, tacos were invented between 1,000 and 500 B.C. as a kind of edible spoon.

It’s World Taco Day and what better way to celebrate than with our top five taco spots in Chucktown. What can we say? We LOVE tacos.

  1.     Taco Boy

They offer a la carte tacos that are to die for. Their taco list is also extensive, 14 tacos long! Taco Boy offers a great outside patio and a killer drink list as well. Taco Boy’s queso is rumored to be one of the best in Charleston.

  1.     Minero

The catfish taco is a fan favorite from Minero on East Bay St. The food they offer is affordable with Mexican inspired flavors. They also serve HUGE burritos for a reasonable price.

  1.     Mex 1 Coastal Cantina

A great spot to enjoy a taco and margarita. People enjoy the bangin’ shrimp taco the most! This is a great place to order a few different tacos and sip on a drink while experiencing a beachy atmosphere.

  1.     Taco Spot

This famous ‘Taco Spot’ used to be a favorite downtown but just recently moved from its small location to Ashley River Road. However, they still serve some of the best tacos! They serve anywhere from regular tacos to Mexican street tacos.

  1.     Juanita Greenberg’s

Juanita’s is a staple on downtown on King Street. Their taco special is one of the best in Chuck. They offer 2 tacos and 1 Juan’s beer for $7 all day, every day. They also serve food until 1 am and $3 shots every day!
