Maui Tacos

Can’t Miss: Maui Tacos Charleston Grand Opening

Aloha Charleston!

There’s a gnarly, new #TacoTuesday spot surfing into town this week. Maui Tacos Mexican Surf Grill is set to have its grand opening this Thursday, January 17.

Located on Meeting Street, Maui Tacos is a franchise originating from the island of Maui. Celebrity chef and restaurateur, Mark Ellman, opened the first Maui Taco in 1993 with several other locations soon following. The restaurant exploded all over the Pacific and is now branching onto the mainland. Charleston will be the restaurant’s second location outside of the islands of Hawaii, the first was in Las Vegas and a third will soon open in Reno.

Bringing the Maui-Mex cuisine to the area is Charleston native Mike and Jen Seltzer. With a combination of Mexican foods and Hawaiian tastes, Maui Taco was once listed as one of the top twenty taco spots in the United States by ZAGAT. Alongside their famous tacos are options including burritos, salads, platters, vegetarian options, a salsa bar, desserts, and other Mexican traditional dishes.

Their drink selections include beer, wine, and unique specialty drinks with a totally awesome happy hour, and when at Maui Tacos, you get a taste of island life which means it’s happy hour all day, every day.

As if we haven’t already talked you into heading to Maui Taco, you could possibly win free tacos! Every Tuesday they pick one winner on Instagram. All you have to do is take a picture of yourself, your friends, or your food and upload it to Instagram, then tag @mauitacos and hashtag the post #mauitacos. Pics or it didn’t happen dudes.

The grand opening will start at 4 pm with $3 frozen margs, $3 draft beer, $3 tacos, and giveaways.

Surfs up, dudes. See you there.

TACO

Let’s TACO ‘Bout The Five Best Taco Spots In Charleston

Featured Image Credit: Minero

Fun facts!

  1. “Taco” in Mexican Spanish = “light lunch” in English.
  2. Last year, a whopping 4.5 million tacos were consumed by Americans.
  3. According to Tacopedia, tacos were invented between 1,000 and 500 B.C. as a kind of edible spoon.

It’s World Taco Day and what better way to celebrate than with our top five taco spots in Chucktown. What can we say? We LOVE tacos.

  1.     Taco Boy

They offer a la carte tacos that are to die for. Their taco list is also extensive, 14 tacos long! Taco Boy offers a great outside patio and a killer drink list as well. Taco Boy’s queso is rumored to be one of the best in Charleston.

  1.     Minero

The catfish taco is a fan favorite from Minero on East Bay St. The food they offer is affordable with Mexican inspired flavors. They also serve HUGE burritos for a reasonable price.

  1.     Mex 1 Coastal Cantina

A great spot to enjoy a taco and margarita. People enjoy the bangin’ shrimp taco the most! This is a great place to order a few different tacos and sip on a drink while experiencing a beachy atmosphere.

  1.     Taco Spot

This famous ‘Taco Spot’ used to be a favorite downtown but just recently moved from its small location to Ashley River Road. However, they still serve some of the best tacos! They serve anywhere from regular tacos to Mexican street tacos.

  1.     Juanita Greenberg’s

Juanita’s is a staple on downtown on King Street. Their taco special is one of the best in Chuck. They offer 2 tacos and 1 Juan’s beer for $7 all day, every day. They also serve food until 1 am and $3 shots every day!
