Charleston Restaurant Coziest In The State

Charleston Restaurant Named Coziest In The State By Travel + Leisure

Travel + Leisure recently went on a mission to find the coziest restaurant in each state. They then compiled a list of spots which embody a “holiday-time feeling of friendliness, familiarity, and relaxation”.

So, what’s the most welcoming restaurant in South Carolina? Harold’s Cabin.

Located on Congress Street in downtown Charleston, Harold’s Cabin first served residents of the Lowcountry between the 1920s and 1950s. It started as a snowball shop followed by a corner grocery and lunch spot. Now Harold’s is open for lunch and dinner, Tuesday through Friday, and for brunch and dinner on the weekends.

Boasting a rooftop garden, a lively bar, a grab-and-go market, and a dining area with seating for sixty-five, the article states Harold’s decor includes “woodsy bathroom wallpaper, “reclaimed wood,” and “mounted antlers” which “channels everything we love about the outdoors, sans the cold and bugs, plus the beer.”

While the cozy feel is welcoming, many people stay for the food.

With great specials, herbs and greens picked right from the rooftop, and a menu unlike any other, Harold’s Cabin is a great place to eat.

If you haven’t been there go see why Travel + Leisure dubbed this as the coziest restaurant in the state.

Vote for Charleston in Travel + Leisure's World's Best Awards

Vote For Charleston In Travel And Leisure World’s Best Awards

It’s that time again! Travel and Leisure is opening up voting for their World’s Best Awards. Charleston is no stranger to winning top awards. In fact, Charleston has won the Best City award in this contest for the last five years in a row. You can vote here.

There’s a myriad of reasons why Charleston wins this award year after year, and we think our fair city deserves all of this praise. We have the history of an old world city and beautiful historic buildings to go with it. We have some of the best beaches on the East Coast and our forests and other landscapes aren’t too shabby either.

When voting, you can also consider our fantastic food scene. The Peninsula and the entire tri-county area are full of restaurants serving southern classics along with other American and international flavors. No matter where in town you go, you’ll find something delicious to eat. And the shopping downtown can’t be beat.

But what really sets us apart is our people and how the city’s genteel southern charm meets modernity. Often voted one of the friendliest places in the world, Charleston thrives on hospitality. Where “y’all” is ubiquitous and the manners are sincere, you’ll have trouble finding a better city to live in or visit than our very own Charleston, South Carolina.

To vote, find out more about the World’s Best Awards, and see last year’s winners, visit Travel and Leisure here.

Not One, But TWO South Carolina Cities Named Best In 2017

Featured Image Credit: Charleston CVB

Charleston and Greenville earned the No. 1 and No. 3 spots in the Conde Nast Traveler’s “The Best Small Cities in the U.S.” featuring cities with populations under 1 million.

The annual survey named Charleston the country’s best small and “most charming cities” for the third year in a row. The magazine described the picturesque, southern town, “known for its dynamic food scene – where destination dining reflects its English, French and West African roots – along with a thriving theatre scene, bustling King Street and Historic City Market.” Travel & Leisure magazine also named Charleston the top city in the U.S. for the fifth year running in 2017.

Greenville came in at No. 3 in the Conde Nast Traveler’s list. The small town was featured as a secret city just on the cusps of stardom. The magazine described Greenville as “The up-and-coming food lover’s town getting its own outpost of Sean Brock’s Husk and its first food hall in late-2017, and its farm-to-table scene is rising to the ranks of Asheville.” Unique to the growing city is its 32-acre Falls Park that runs straight through the middle of town. Many visitors take a nice evening stroll of the trails after a day of window shopping and a mouthwatering dinner.

South Carolina’s Hilton Head Island was also featured as No. 1 among the “Best Islands in the U.S.” The Lowcountry region is known for its golf courses, lighthouses, and large beaches. The magazine described the island “With pristine beaches, shopping to satisfy everyone and restaurants that could compete with major cities, it’s no wonder that our readers found this South Carolina island so relaxing.”

The State of South Carolina found itself among many mentions throughout different magazines for its splendid cities. Neighboring cities mentioned in the “Best Small Cities in the U.S.” include Savannah, GA at No. 6, and Asheville, N.C. at No. 14.
